UPDATE *** This restaurant closed in October 2010 ***
There had been a lot of chatter about Cravings Cafe, the restaurant and bar and takeout and coffee joint that can’t quite decide what it wants to be when it grows up that opened near the Pennbrook Train Station in Lansdale/Upper Gwynedd/North Wales. Aside from inspiring run-on sentences, it also inspired my taste buds.
Dinner with a friend last night was tasty in the storefront location, though the plain earth tone decor leaves a bit to be desired. You feel like you’re not in a restaurant, but rather an empty store made to look like a restaurant. But who cares about the decor if the food is good, right?
The food is excellent. A sharp cheddar and roasted red pepper soup is a house specialty and it is delicious. Not too cheesy or thick, just the right consistency and fresh veggies. Dinner was Vegetable Wellington, which consisted of some fresh veggies and a cheese blend baked inside of homemade puff pastry. Mind you, just about anything in puffed pastry with cheese will taste good but this was especially tasty.
Dessert. Wow. Cinnabun Bread Pudding. Not the brick in your stomach you might be thinking about, this was almost flaky. But man oh man the sugar/butter combination that made up the sauce – I could taste my arteries clogging. It was delicious.
A small but friendly bar was separated completely from the dining room, which was nice. I will return here some time and sample more of the menu. I recommend it.
