The Inn Flight has been operating since 1970 with locations in Abington, Colmar and Phoenixville. I have always regarded it as one of my favorite casual dining establishments for quite a number of reasons.
If I were making my own menu for my own casual restaurant and bar it would look a lot like this menu. It’s huge, with sandwiches, platters, appetizers, a healthy seafood selection and a handful of tasty desserts.
Fish, beef and chicken dominate the menu. They make their own pub pretzels and “crab chips” at the bar and the cocktail and extensive beer selection is good for those wishing to make a night of it. They feature their own brews as well as all the big brands.
My very favorite dishes are those served in casserole dishes – The Shrimp Superb, Crab Supreme and the many “Reuben” selections.
Shrimp Superb is generous gulf shrimp over a croissant with russian dressing and broiled American cheese. It’s delicious. Crab Supreme is the same setup but lump crabmeat and swiss cheese taking place of American and Shrimp.
The Reubens are done open faced under the broiler and feature cole slaw, melted swiss, and your choice of meat: chicken, turkey, corned beef, roast beef, tuna or – get this – shrimp. The shrimp reuben is out of this world.
They also offer the world’s only “Reuben Burger”. You heard it right: A burger topped w/ slaw, dressing and broiled cheese. I’ve never tried it – but some day under a doctors strict supervision.
Dinners come with salad, two veggies, great rolls and great service (though it is much better at Colmar. Abington’s service has always been a bit spotty – I sent some friends there last year and they did not enjoy their meal, no doubt this was part of the reason). Steaks, many seafood choices (including an affordable surf and turf and other lobster options).
I must also mention they have the best New England Clam Chowder I’ve had. A hint of wine is in there adding to the flavor. I like theirs the best and they make it themselves. Worth a try (I know some people are VERY fussy about clam chowder).
Don’t come here looking for white tablecloths but if you’re looking for a clean ,family friendly place to eat for under $25 a person, this is the spot. The food is fresh, the owners and staff are friendly and they don’t rob you.
That’s a good stop along the trail for a Hungry Pilgrim.
