Ted’s Montana Grill is Ted Turner’s chain restaurant celebrating the great American West. How does he celebrate it? By opening up restaurants that include bison burgers. It’s a good thing, because I had a hankering for a good burger and two people recommended Ted’s.
Located next to the Kimmel Center on Broad Street in Philadelphia, the grill is a casual dining spot with comfortable booths and tables. It’s nicer then most casual restaurants, but not so nice that you feel out of place in jeans.
Service was attentive and the menu offers steaks and entrees and a list of about 20 different burger and chicken sandwich specialties. I went with a Bacon-Bleu burger with mushrooms. My friend had a bacon, chedder and onion burger. Mine was bison, his was beef. Bison meat is better for you then beef and just as tasty (almost indistinguishable). I was disappointed they didn’t offer bison steaks on the menu, just beef.
I tried the chili beforehand. It was meaty and tasty, but I like a little more flavor then this chili offered. A chocolate malt with dinner was good and a nice available accompaniment to the burger and hand cut fries. I should have skipped the warm baked cookies for dessert, not because they weren’t good, but because I ate too much.
The root beer float my friend had for dessert was presented with Barq’s root beer in a glass bottle, which was cool.
