Jersey Shore, PA is nowhere near the Jersey Shore. Nor is it much near anything else in civilization either. It’s a shame. Because people are missing out on some fabulous waffles. We happened upon the Pennsylvania Waffle House thinking it was part of the Waffle House chain. As we approached the town coordinated in our GPS it became clear we were nowhere near any outpost of any chain restaurant anywhere.
We parked and popped into the PA Waffle House. The surroundings are homespun, cluttered even. But the tables and place settings were clean and the owner/operator may have served Harry Truman if he ever made it around these parts when he was running for President in the 1940’s.
The waffles for which this establishment is named were delicious. Worth the trip. The breakfast meats were also tasty. Eggs were not their speciality and were overcooked and dry. Breakfast for 5, with all the fixings, was $37.00. We even purchased a few of the owners specialty bread loaves (made for the holidays – Banana Nut, Pumpkin and Applesauce). All were very good.
We did get amused by a phone conversation the owner had with someone where he declared he had “a big order” that cleaned him out of “oil” (which seemed to mean cooking spray for the waffle irons).
I highly recommend a pit stop at the Pennsylvania Waffle House if you’re in the neighborhood, but if you’re bringing 5 or more people you might want to call ahead and warn them (tongue firmly planted in cheek).
