UPDATE 2022: This post has, by far, been the most popular of this mildly abandoned blog. As of December 2022 these cookies don’t seem to be manufactured by anyone anymore. There are thumbprint cookies, but nothing like these. So, there’s your update. -Jake.
These were my favorite cookies growing up. My dad loved them too. Then they disappeared from supermarket shelves. I used to be able to get them at a farm market not far from the house. But then they stopped carrying them.
A simple butter cookie with a hardened and sticky raspberry jelly top. These are not to be confused with the cookies from the eastern European Jewish tradition that are filled or topped with a jam-like jelly. No, these are totally artificially wonderful.
They get stuck in your teeth, they are dry enough that they require milk and you can easily eat half a package of them without noticing. They are fab.
If you find them somewhere, let me know.
I love these cookies. The only place I get them now is when the turn up in a cookie tray or in the proverbial “can” of holiday cookies.
I usually pop one in my mouth whole, and let them just soften and “melt” in my mouth. It’s then (and only then) that I chew on the jelly center.
If I find them, I’ll make sure to let you know. Hell, I’ll buy you some!
I MUSt have these cookies for my best friend for a Christmas gift. Her mother, who dies of Cancer at age 46, use to give them to my best friend when she was sick.
Please send me a link to where I can buy them ? PLEASE
Dear Jadon,
You are in luck! I, too, love Mrs. Allison’s Jelly Top cookies. And, yes, they are from my childhood as well. I can remember the first one I ever tasted — 36 years ago. I have mourned their passing and have been looking EVERYWHERE. My husband found this post and we have followed EVERY lead to no avail. As Jake posted above “They are totally artificially wonderful”. Mrs. Allison’s Jelly Tops, as we know them, are unfortunately gone.
So, let me share my “christmas gift”. I live in a small town in Southeast Missouri called Kennett. We have a local bakery which is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. Everything that they make is wonderful – strawberry cakes, fruitcakes, peanut butter sandwhich cookies, iced angel food cakes, birthday cakes, beautifully decorated seasonal sugar cookies, and the list goes on and on. I have lived here for the last 18 years and visit the bakery, “Causbie’s”, frequently. I was astounded today when I stopped in with my boys to buy some of our favorites and saw these beautiful jelly topped cookies that reminded me oh so much of Mrs. Allison’s jelly tops. I skeptically asked the clerk to add two or three to my box of goodies. I had little to no hope that they would meet my expectation. The clerk replied, “Oh, those are wonderful — my very favorites”. “Really”, I said. I asked for one to sample and then bought two dozen. THEY ARE WONDERFUL. Ok – they are NOT exactly the same. As I described to my husband — these must taste like the very first ones that sweet Mrs. Allison baked in her own kitchen before mass producing them. The cookie is the same delicate buttercream shortbread cookie and the “jelly” is dead on for the taste but it does not have the same sticky/tacky, pull-your-fillings out texture like Mrs. Allison’s. Personally, I think that these are infinitely better than Mrs. Allison’s. And I NEVER thought I would ever make a statement like that. I am a purest and substitions seldom, if ever, pass scrutiny with me. Finding these today was the BEST Christmas present I could ask for. I have LOVED these cookies my whole life. I can’t tell you how many times I have eaten a whole package of them in one sitting. Causbie’s jelly tops are a little more filling. I think I have only had 6 today. But, each and every one was perfect. Here is the link to their website http://www.causbiesbakery.com. They do not list these cookies on their website but I do know that they will ship. You would simply need to call and ask. Merry Christmas!
My grandfather owned and ran this factory in plant city fl and saint louis mo. they are no longer on shelfs and i could probalby get the recipe for you
I found two places to but online Cookie Unlimited for one, but watch out for the shipping!!! yikes. I’m ending up paying $30 for these cookies, but they are a memory from my childhood. Can’t find them anywhere where I live.
Hey Jake – Publix carries them in the Southeast. I also found them at a Sara Lee outlet.
In fact, I’m sitting here eating them even as I type!

Oh Thank you. Thank you. These will be a surprise for our family too. Major staple in our lives as well —> As everyone knows – What a delicious treat! Soooo grateful my 💓 is screaming Muah muah and muah for the information to purchase – You rock Malady Mary Habas!
As I said, I ordered some and they haven’t come yet, but the “shipping” fee was a doozey. If you search for jelly top cookies, they come up on another site, but I couldn’t get it to place an order and hadn’t called the number.

Any suggestions on where I can find these? I’d be more than happy to order them on-line and have them shipped, I think that might be my best bet since I have tried to find them in all of our local markets. Thanks!

Please, somebody, anybody help me find them. They are my favorites, I grew up with them n now they are all gone!!!!!!!! 😦 😦
BEST COOKIES EVER!
I live in Northern NJ and I have been going crazy looking for these cookies myself for the past few years! I can’t believe I’m not the only one who craves these wonderful delights. I bought them at Shop Rite years ago and then unfortunately when I went to purchase then again I was sad to see that the shelf was bare. Then when I was down the shore I happened to stop at Foodtown and they actually had them! I bought four packages (I wish I bought more!) and I think I ate them all within a week. When I went back again, they didn’t have them any more.
I have been sick for over a year and a half and have lost my appetite. Due to my medications, I just recently lost 16 lbs. in a month and am now down to 90 lbs. I could really use these cookies to fatten and cheer me up. (I actually dream about them!) I have my friends and family searching high and low for these cookies. They try to get cookies similar to the original, but they’re just not the same.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if anyone finds these delicious treats, please let me know. I really would appreciate it!
wtf why they stop making these
it’s the best!
wow!!! i miss these so much and look in every new store i visit when i vacation to see if SOMEONE carries them….i check dollar stores, etc too….. i decided to google the word jellytops to see if i can find them on the web and discover there are many, many people out there, just like me, missing their jellytops…it’s crazy…..why did they stop making them, ANYWHERE????
Incredible, I asked my husband if he remembered these cookies we used to get here in N. Alabama. I have also been searching for my long lost friends. So when I googled searching for the cookies look what I found. A whole support group of cravers for Mrs. Allisons Jelly top Cookies. Should we post a reward for the person who can find a source?
What we need is a recipe, perfect the same as the missing name brand.
New supplier is in the works. 🙂
OMG!!!!! I though I was the only one looking for these cookies for the past couple of years!!! I live in New York City and was able to get them @ any dollar store and they have just vanished!! PLEASE, BRING THEM BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love these things too…also, I miss the iced oatmeal raisin bars…the had little white stripes on the top of them…I’d love to find a place to purchase both of these.
Yes, my precious! Jelly tops precious! we must all fight the good fight and keep looking. I’m trying to duplicate a recipe! just not quite right somehow…
I ate these as a kid. I found them up until a few years ago and have been looking everywhere. My brother used to be able to get them for me and so for Christmas I would get a box full of them. : (
So sad that they don’t make them. I’m up for trying to duplicate them but it still won’t be the same.
ATTN BILL::::: Do you know how they were made since you worked there and made them???? Please help us all!!
I might have found a reasonable facsimile! They don’t look 100% the same, but think I’m going to order some and see!
http://www.cookieoutlet.com/store/cherry-jelly-top.html
i found them at a keyfood in the bronx by westchester square i bought 5 packs @$1.89 each still a deal used to be 2 /$1 went back today gone souds like the are not gonna get them anymore
Not only am I shocked to find that I’m NOT the only person missing Mrs. Allison’s Jelly Top Cookies, I had no idea that her cookies were distributed so far from St. Louis. The old factory is not far from where I live. We went there on a field trip in grade school. Anyway, like everything else, Mrs. A got bought out, ending up in the hands of Parmalat. If that name is unfamiliar, google it and you’ll see that the whole operation went bust, taking jelly tops with it. I don’t know of anyone making anything at all similar. I travel a lot and the foodie in me likes to go to grocery stores and see what other regions offer. I’ve been on a mission for jelly tops for the last two years. Nothing – though that link above for the cherry top cookies looks promising! Mrs. A’s cookies had that stick to your teeth raspberry stuff on top, not cherry. I’ve been filling in the gap by making spritz cookies (I use Cook’s Illustrated recipe). I pipe the cookies onto the baking sheet, then wet my finger and make a “dent” in the middle of the cookie for the jelly. After the cookies have baked and cooled, I boil down some Smucker’s seedless raspberry jam to thicken it, then dribble a little onto each cookie and let that cool and firm up. It will never be Mrs. A but it’s a fine cookie, just the same. I’ll keep watching this space in hope of the jelly top’s return!
Hey Michael, I just read your reply on Mrs. Allison’s jelly top cookies. Can you email me your recipe please?
the closest I found to Mrs. Allison’s jelly top cookies is (check out) .. cookieoutlet.com search under cherry cookie if you want sugar on the cookie it’s under cherry top cookies .. If anyone find the original post a comment & the info thanks
Please email me your recipe for the jelly tops!
Can I get a recipe for the jelly top cookies?
Hi–
My mom and I have been on a mission to find these cookies and by pure coincidence, she found them at a local farmer’s market! They are no longer called Jelly Tops, nor made by Mrs. Allison…but if this is not the exact same cookie, then these are the best replica!!
So…for all the Mrs. A’s Jelly Top lovers out there…you need to check this out:
Jimmy’s Jamin’ Jellies distributed by J&K Enterprises in Deptford, NJ.

Hi Manny,
Did you order the cookies? I was just wondering how you made out…
Melissa 🙂
I worked at Mrs. Alisons Cookies for 23 years and I run the cutter that make the Jelly Top cookies. Wish I had one right now especially when they were warm and coming right out of the oven.
By the way the Jelly in the cookies was Apple Jelly, We tried different kinds of Jelly, but the red apple jelly was the best.
ALL HAIL THE GREAT MELISSA, OUR SAVIOUR!!
LOL…as I type, I have a bag of them sitting on top of my computer desk! I’m not a big fan of store bought cookies, but I love Jelly Tops (Jamin’ Jellies)! I hope you are able to get your hands on some! 🙂 Good luck!

Out of production until December. Just phoned the company:(
My wife loves these cookies as well and we found then in a store last summer while camping on the Buffalo River down in AR, We will be going down there again soon to camp and get more cookies, people are saying that they are no longer produced but i have found this store on line that carries them http://lowesfoods.grocerydirect.com/pd/Mrs-Alisons/Jelly-Tops-Cookies/9-oz/072413004128/ I dont know if they ship but they do have them in stock.
And this place in NY has them too http://www.keyfood.com/pd/Mrs-Alisons/Oatmeal-Cookies/21-oz/072413006115/
Oooops Wrong link that was for Oatmeal this one is for Jelly Tops http://shop.mywebgrocer.com/shop.aspx?strid=250D989&sc=SEOPD_CA_4795D138-B97E-465B-9428-AF62E970711D&shopurl=search.aspx&k=jelly%20top
I went to the link you gave and it gives you the option to order BUT, they will not deliver to you only pick up. When I called Key Food in Brooklyn they said that they have been getting a lot of calls re: these cookies BUT they do not carry them and does not know why customers are being ref: to them when the item is not available.
I called Lowes Foods to see if they deliver and they said the item has been discontinued.
Does anyone remember a similar cookie back in the 70’s called “Lady Joan” made by Sunshine Bakers. One of the cookies looked like a Jelly top but with no jelly and one was drizzled with chocolate. They were so good.
Tom
I worked for Mrs. Alison/Beatrice of Canada/Parmalat/Archway&Mothers Cookie Co as VP of Sales. The brand “Mrs.Alison” was bought on the Bankruptcy steps by Lance/Snyders. They bought with the Mrs.Alison brand the Archway soft cookie brand. They shelved the Mrs.Alison brand to concentrate on the Archway business. I am contemplating whether I reach out to Lance/Snyders to see if I could buy the label “Mrs.Alison”. If so one of my co-workers who is retired and lives here in Missouri was the VP of Production and a great baker. He could help my co-packer re-produce the exact Mrs.Alison Jelly Top. Personally, I did not like the item but from a sales standpoint most of our distributors bought the item because it was unique and had a great loyal following from all of you great people. My idea is a long shot but you never know.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRING MRS. ALLISON JELLY TOP COOKIES BACK!!!! THOSE WERE THE ABSOLUTE BEST COOKIES EVER!!!
TERESE
That would be great !! Please let us know if it panned out, I would love to be able to buy these cookies again, I grew up on them 😀
Good For You,,,Mr Harting!!!!!
And then there is always “Golden Tongue”” LOL
dennnis
Tom-
That would be AWESOME!
I worked for a cookie distributor out of Hempstead N.Y. We had many popular price cookies but the jelly top cookies were the best movers. I was sales manager in N.J. would put 100 cases in Pathmark stores, packed 24 per case, 2,400 units, & watch the fly. At that time they were 2 / $1.00, back in mid 80’s. There was also a larger pack, for 0.99, great, great item.
OK JELLY TOP LOVERS!!! YOUR SEARCH IS OVER!!!!!!!!!! I LIVE IN ILLINOIS AND HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS FORUM FOR A COUPLE YEARS. MY DAD AND SISTER LOVED THESE AND I HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS PLACES WITH NO LUCK. HOWEVER TODAY I ORDERED ME SOME JELLY TOPS!!!!!!! THE WEBSITE IS SCOTTOSBAKERY.COM. I EMAILED THEM MY ORDER (it wouldn’t let me do an online order, website issues.) I CALLED AND CONFIRMED MY ORDER AND THEY ARE BEING SHIPPED TODAY!!!!! THEY WERE VERY NICE AND I AM VERY EXCITED!!! I WILL POST AGAIN AFTER I RECEIVE THEM AND LET YOU KNOW HOW THEY TASTE!! IF NOTHING ELSE ITS A START!!!!! HOPE THIS HELPS!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is great! I was looking for the same cookies as a Christmas gift for my brother. We are not celebrating Christmas until next weekend so hopefully there’s still time to get some. THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Lisa, I looked them up,and they say almond flavored. Which is fine by me, but the original jelly tops weren’t almond flavored.
These are almond flavored which is fine but, the original ones were not almond flavored.
I was just at Dollar Tree and picked up some Granny’s Oven Strawberry Shortbread Cookies and they are very, very close to Jelly Top’s if not better! They are only $1! You should try them. They also come in Raspberry. They taste very buttery and delicious!

I haven’t found these great cookies of my pass, but what I did find is a shortbread cookie that is spot on the taste all thats missing is the red sticky center. All I did is cut a little of the center of the cookie out and melted down some swiss fish candy then poured it in the center let it cool and it was close enough for my fix. The name brand of the shortbread cookies is Voortman .
I can’t believe I found you all. Wonderful People! Loving these wonderful cookies!

anyone find them yet????????????????????
Hello everyone.
It has now been 7 years since this was posted and 5 since it appeared seemingly from out of nowhere from a late nite desperate Google search. I am 36 years old and like many of you spent my childhood, and many years afterward, loving Mrs. Alison’s Jelly Tops. Years ago they were seemingly everywhere. And so terribly inexpensive but oh so delicious. I can remember every little exact aspect of them. The sweet chewy jelly that would always stick in your teeth. The light brown crumbly cookie that would fly to pieces with a single bite if you weren’t careful. My favorite thing was to nibble away the edges leaving only the disc of jelly which I would then proceed to suck on until it melted.
I grew up a block away from a bakery that despite making many wonderful things themselves had a shelf of prepackaged treats. And amongst them were Jelly Tops. Every Sunday morning I’d walk down the alley and get a Gooey Butter cake for breakfast before church and I’d use the change from that and the $.50 my Dad would give me for offering and buy a package of Jelly Tops for myself. I would go home and hide the cookies in a completely inconspicuous shoe box I had on a shelf in my room so my sister wouldn’t get to them and my parents wouldn’t realize I was stealing from them and god. Sorry god.
Those cookies were amazing. And they were always there when I wanted one until they weren’t. I can’t remember exactly when it was. Or how long it had been since the last time I had one. But one day in the mid ’00s I found myself walking aimlessly, anxiously because of a massive fight my girlfriend and I had had moments before and I knew that it was done. We were finished. And I was angry and sad and freezing cold because it was winter and I stormed out of her parent’s apartment forgetting my coat and I couldn’t go back. So I walked. I walked fast. I was so miserable. I began to think of something that would cheer me up and I thought of those cookies. So I changed direction, went to Schnucks and got a package of Jelly Tops. Everything was wonderful again. But not really. Because that was a lie. Because there were no Jelly Tops. I went to customer service to ask if maybe they had some in the back and was told by a very short angry looking bald man that the cookies had stopped being produced years beforehand. I held back tears. They were gone. Forever. And I’ve been looking ever since.
Most of the links people have posted here for comparable alternatives or fresh baked jelly cookies have long since stopped working. As far as I can tell no one has found an exact replica. Or at least not one that stuck around for much longer. It’s neat to hear from the people who actually had a hand in making them. And the Vp of sales moderate interest in the cookie. Too bad his long shot never came to fruition.
I sometimes wonder why this cookie is so important to me. Why I can still remember it so well. I used to think that it was because it was no longer there and things are infinitely more prized when that is the case. So I would dismiss it. But I realize now it’s because it’s the first thing that I noticed to go away. I’m sure a lot of you can relate to this when getting older. Now don’t get me wrong, by this point in my life lots of things had gone away. It was before TV show boxed sets and streaming on the interwebs. I had lost pets. And people. But this was the first thing that I actually recognized as something I loved that was available for the whole of society that disappeared without any warning. I didn’t even know that could happen. To me it was as if Mc Donald’s one day stopped selling fries. And if Mrs. Alison’s went under why on Earth wasn’t some other company right there producing an incredibly similar product to fill the gap. Isn’t that what the USA is good at? Didn’t people see there was a want, or need, for these cookies? Who dropped the ball on this!? Who was it?!
I still look. I’ve bought an assortment of brands off the internet. Some from Japan! But none have really seemed right. Or at least they don’t match my memory of what one should taste like. Or what the mouthfeel should be. But my memory might be the thing keeping me from finding a comparable cookie. Maybe I’ll never find anything that tastes like my grandiose idea of what this beloved little cookie should be. And maybe that’s for the best. Maybe my memory of it and what it means to me has become more important to me than the cookie itself. All I know is that they were a huge part of my life. I love them. And I miss them.
And I want all the cookies right now.
Wow. A pretty amazing recollection/memory/story. Thanks!
Omg I JUST saw what you wrote and your description is on point!!!! Growing up my mom would buy them for us and it was a fight over who would get the last one.
About two years ago I found them at expects and clear their shelf. Now I can’t find them anymore and was just telling my husband how I could go for a package of those jelly top cookies.
Please let me know if you ever found them.
Maira 😉
Those were my favorite growing up. There are good bakeries in CT that make Jelly Top cookies. If you email me, I can show you pictures of them. And if you’d like, I’ll mail them out to you because the bakeries here don’t do that. :O)
that is very nice of you maria, thank you so much 🙂
I’ve been looking for these cookies all over and I cannot find them is there a way I can order them please email me
I have been looking for two years with no luck:(
It is so great to see I am not suffering alone. LOL! I ate these from a little girl until about 8 years ago. The Wonder bread store use to sell them. The best ever!! I would love to get my hands on some more. I would eat a whole row at a time. I have looked online and everywhere. No more Mrs. Alison’s jelly top. 😦 😦 If any of you find them let all of us know.

I checked out most of the sites and the closest to the cookie we love was the one found at this website. shop.mywebgrocer.com (Key Food). The cookie is called Manischewitz cookies-jelly top. I read the ingredients and the center is made with a raspberry/apple mix jelly. It’s $3.99 a box. The only thing is… they are only for ordering online and picking up locally. I have emailed them to see if they will mail them to me if I pay over the phone. Their number in (718) 968-0200. The Sku/UPC# is 072700102117. Good Luck everyone!! 🙂
Hello where can I get these cookies
Wow, I’ve been trying to track these cookies down for years. They were my my mom’s favorite cookie, I remember as a kid always having these around. I’d love nothing more than to surprise her with them on Mother’s Day. But I didn’t know the brand name or anything. I somewhat remember the packaging, like three rows of the cookies on a plastic tray, with a plastic wrapper. Bummer they don’t make them anymore. I always remembered the candied cherry center, so chewy it could rip out a filling! Guess my search is over. Such a shame, I have a lot of memories tied to those cookies. 🍪
Where can I go to order these cookies??? …

Thanks
I loved these cookie use to buy them when i would visit the bronx. I would eat a whole pack with no guilt.
I am SO SAD that I can’t find them anymore!! You could literally find them in the cheap cookie section of ANY supermarket here in NY. What a shame. Miss them! :0(
Did you ever find these cookies? Meijer used to carry them but stopped.
not those specifically. I found some through a cookie outlet but they were WAY expensive They came in the mail and I am eating them sparingly to make them last. Won’t order again from same place. $30! for about 2 dozen. Will see if I can get someplace else online since they are NOWHERE in Colorado where I live.
What website did you go through? I saw some on Baker’s Authority but was not sure of close to the Jelly Tops they would be. I don’t want to waste my time and money.
Search for Mrs. Alison’s Jelly Tops
@ Jackie Eliott please brimg them back!!!!!! If ubstill have the recipe you are clearly sitting on gold and the solution to evryone in here’s problem!!!!
My 1st introduction to these babies was the fall of 89 when my parents though lt was a brilliant idea to ship me off to my aunt and uncle in New York from Haiti so that I can get a u.s. education the corner store on beach 67th Street in Far Rockaway New York which is still around by the way. Is they were my only Joys and that.
Cookie outlet
I ordered some and they are NOT like the picture and not like the ones I remember getting as a kid in Denver, CO. Won’t order again. They are too thick, not light like I remember.
My husband loves them also and I was hoping to get some for Christmas but I guess not. 😦

Walmart has a seasonal variety box of cookies that look similar. I hope to find them and try this weekend. I too have been looking for these cookies for years! https://i1.wp.com/www.theimpulsivebuy.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Marketside-Assorted-Desserts-Shortbread-Chocolate-Chip-Brownies-and-Raspberry-Spritz-Cookies.jpg?zoom=1.5&resize=600%2C337&ssl=1
Hi everyone, following for a bit now and I guess I’ve given up hope of buying them. Did anyone come up with a recipe that comes close? I’d love to make these for my whole family for Christmas. I’m from a family of 14 and we LOVED them growing up.
Some of you folks that worked there, any tips?
Merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone 😊
I am from the 50’s and grew up on these cookies. I am quite a baker, but can I replicate Mrs. Allison”s cookies, NOT AT ALL. I can get the cookie part similar, but the jelly center, I can’t get. I’m old and in a wheelchair, so I don’t go shopping any longer, but I can tell you, I have checked every similar cookie out and nothing compares. We had some really good foods (treats) that all disappeared in the 60-s and 70’s. Kelloggs Danish Go-rounds and Keebler Fudgetown Cookies (any other brand is not the same).
My heart is broken when I read this because I started thinking about them today and want some so bad. They were my favorite cookie growing up. My grandmother would buy them for me..
Wow, I had no idea other people loved these cookies as much as I did. I had them all the time in NY. I live in Florida for the past 4 years and have been searching online and having my friends in NY search the stores for me and nothing. Has anyone found anything remotely similar to these wonderful cookies?
Found a bakery in Bronx, NY that makes them as part of a menagerie holiday tin. They are NOT sold individually packaged.
HOWEVER, I asked the owner / person in charge, if the factory can make a case of them for me • • • HE SAID YES – & they will ship it to me. ( they will go into production in 2-3 weeks, then they will bake extras for my order.)
Stand by • • • we’ll see what they taste like.
By the way, someone was worried that a descriptive they read that said almond flavor, & was concerned • • they are supposed to have the almond flavor • as did the original jelly tops • buttery was NOT the primary flavor, almond was.
Please let me know if anyone finds anything. I LOVE THEM!!!!! The best cookie ever.
Keep me posted please, thanks!
Where I live in the Bronx A friend of mine has found them for me somewhere in the Bronx and at a store at Bodega I’m trying to find them
I wish I knew… my favorite too.
I have been looking for these for years. My Grandmom bought them for me every week.
Is the company still around I’ve been looking for these everywhere
Where can i buy these from ?I have been looking everywhere there are a lot that look like these but not the same i need these .
Just make the cookies yourself. Homemade cookies are always better than store bought cookies. https://pastrymadness.com/shortbread-cookies-with-jam/
So, is Mrs Alison’s jelly top cookies the ones that were sold in the Wonder Hostess Bakery Outlet stores in the late 70’s/early 80’s?
